The Status....

Hi everyone.
I suppose things have been a bit quiet lately, eh?

Here's the deal:

Last July I subjected myself to some dental work that (quite unexpectedly) screwed up my ability to sing properly. I am pretty much adapted now, and that ordeal should be over sometime this fall.

Strangely, this coincided with a few other things:

1) My new business got REALLY busy. It then took us months to find a suitable assistant.

2) I got thoroughly fed up with the diminishing effort vs. return in maintaining a band and doing shows, which led to a disinterest in making the effort and in writing new material.

3) The "goth-industrial" scene, (which we probably never really belonged in, but which fit us better than the hipster "rock" scene or the cookie-monster-mouth "metal" scene) quite frankly, collapsed. I know that some well-established bands are still making a presence and some intrepid newcomers are still at it. I applaud them for that. But the amount of performing bands (and i do not mean 1-2 people plus laptop) has really shrunk as far as I've been noticing. Apparently, Pepsi is not the choice of a new generation. You should see the letter to shareholders in Hot Topic's annual report. So, for that reason, I have not been actively pursuing Anathema Device. I haven't felt inclined to kill it. I still have a great affection for the music, the guys in the live band and the fans.
I have recently started putting down some ideas for new songs. I don't know what they'll turn into, or when. I do know that they'll probably only be available as downloads, because I have hundreds of unsold CDs sitting in a storage space, costing me $100 a month, and I'd rather focus on writing a few good songs than a crappy album. Luckily, I have no label on my back forcing me into that.

In the meantime, I have been making music for various "things" at my business, MassiveMusic. It's been fun and fulfilling, and I have really honed my writing and recording skills in the last year.

So, keep an eye and ear out. I may yet give you something else to rejoice about. If we're all lucky, gigging will resume and hopefully the guys I play with, and you the audience, will be into it.

Thanks for your support.
